In Lee Child’s Reacher novels, there is a famous saying in which the beloved main character does not respond to direct dialogue, and instead, the prose tells us: “Reacher said nothing.” Well, now, Alan Ritchson, the actor best known for playing Reacher, is starring in a new crime thriller in which it looks like he’ll even say Less More than he’s ever said as Reacher.

Taking place in 1970s Detroit, the plot of motor city The story revolves around a man named John Miller (Ritchson) who is framed for a drug bust, which lands him in jail and separates him from his bride-to-be Sophia (Shailene Woodley). As is evident from the trailer, the rest of the film becomes a revenge tale, in which John uses his time in prison to transform from being Super Jack, losing his 1970s tousled hairstyle, and emerging as a lean, mean, and mostly silent, wrecking machine.
While director Patsy Poncirolli is clearly giving motor city A vintage, historical feel, there’s also something deeply honest about putting Ritchson in a revenge movie in which he uses his remarkable acting talents to convey, physicallyStory of the film. Smart action movies don’t need a lot of dialogue to be compelling, and just because a character doesn’t talk much doesn’t mean he’s stupid. In fact, what Lee Child proved with the success of Reacher is that it’s actually quite the opposite.
So, in motor cityReacher fans will find Richerson in a Reacher-esque role, but also, something we’ve never seen before in a film like this. According to co-star ben foster in 2024, motor city “Virtually silent.” Which is perfect for Ritchson fans, Reacher fans, and action fans.
Don’t get us wrong, Ritchson has a great voice. But the fact that this movie has enough guts to give us a massive revenge movie without a ton of dialogue is absolutely refreshing and brilliant.

motor city It debuted at the Venice Film Festival last year in 2025. It will be released widely in the US on July 24, 2026.
In addition to Ritchson and Woodley, the film also stars Pablo Schreiber, Lionel Boyce, Ben Foster, and Ben McKenzie.
