Pedro Acosta has displayed a remarkable display of confidence and sportsmanship ahead of the German Grand Prix, stating that he would have no hesitation in giving Brad Binder a MotoGP ride – “even my current bike.” The bold announcement comes as Acosta continues to recover from recent surgery after suffering a carpal tunnel nerve entrapment that forced him out of the Dutch GP in Assen just two weeks ago.
Acosta, who had undergone surgery on his right hand only nine days earlier, appeared in front of the media at the Sachsenring with stitches still in place. “Honestly, I feel really good. It feels like everything went right, nothing went wrong, so I’m happy because now I can finally sleep through the night,” Acosta shared. He told that the stitches were to be removed in the afternoon.
With no time yet to test the strength of his arm after the operation, Acosta revealed, “No, no, no. In the end, if it got infected I had more to lose than to gain by trying one day on the bike. So tomorrow will be the first real test,” making it clear he had no doubts about getting medical clearance to ride. Describing his surgery as lasting less than an hour, he said, “I have no doubt, in the end it’s not a circuit that is too demanding on the right hand. We almost always lean on the left, so this will help me.”
Despite the summer holidays, Acosta is focused on the immediate challenge and has modest expectations for the weekend. “Honestly, expectations are low. I’ll sit on the bike tomorrow, see how I feel in FP1, and set a realistic target from there. It’s true that we need a good grand prix after two very dark weekends,” he admitted, referencing his technical DNF at Brno and withdrawal due to injury at Assen. “But we have to take it calmly, see where we are, and then do our best.”
This week KTM, Acosta’s current team, announced an entirely new rider line-up for next season with the addition of Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Gianantonio. Acosta welcomed the news: “Very happy for all parties, the riders and the team. They will be working with super-capable people in the championship, like Alex who finished second last year, and Di Gianantonio, who is performing really well this year. I think both deserve a fresh start in this new era, so I’m happy for both parties.”
Now confirmed as a Ducati rider for 2027, Acosta did not miss the chance to praise his current teammate Brad Binder. “I would definitely give Brad a MotoGP bike. Why? I’ll tell you, few people put in as much effort as he does. For one reason or another, he’s not getting the results he deserves, but I would give him a MotoGP bike without question.”
When pressed on whether Binder should replace Luca Marini in Tech3, Acosta avoided controversy, but insisted: “It’s hard to say, but I’d give him a bike, if not in Tech3, at any team,” he said, before underscoring his point with a biting punchline: “I’d give him a bike anywhere. I’d even give him my current bike.”
With his trademark directness and unwavering support towards fellow riders, Acosta has once again cemented his reputation as both a fierce competitor and a generous sportsman as the MotoGP paddock turns its attention towards the Sachsenring.
