Nemo Moonlander Compact Camping with Dual Height Table: OHUB Review

I packed Nemo Moonlander Dual Height TaHop in the truck for a spring camping/turkey hunting trip, and thank God I had it. Generally, I use a picnic table at a campground or I can do without it if I’m going to a more remote area. However, when I saw how compact the Moonlander table was, I had to test if it was durable enough for any of my camping adventures. In this Nemo Moonlander Dual Height Table review, you’ll learn why this table is a must-have for many, but not all, and how it saved me from eating dirt.

Testing methods and conditions

I’ve packed Nemo Moonlander in my SUV for family camping trips to a cabin near a lake, off-grid weekend hunting trips with a friend, and short day trips with my family. I have set it up on sandy soil, gravel and hard surfaces to hold my drinks, food and card games.

Assembly, Setup and First Impressions

When I first opened Nemo Moonlander, I realized how easy it was to set up. The shorter version sets up in seconds, and the longer version takes only a few seconds more to install the legs. I also noticed how compact it is. While it’s a little overkill for backpacking (especially for those who are shaving every ounce), it’s great for most other camping experiences as it can pack almost anywhere.

Stability and surface performance

This table has never been unstable during any of my camping trips, no matter what surface I placed it on. I wasn’t at all worried about my food or accessories accidentally falling on the ground, even when I was using it as a cutting board for my steak. Wherever I would normally put a table, Moonlander worked. I wouldn’t recommend using it in soft soil as the legs are narrow and will sink in, but they will hold up in sandy soil and gravel.

Durability, materials and build quality

I was surprised to see a maximum weight capacity of 100 pounds; To be honest, I expected very little. However, after my testing, I believe it can bear a lot of weight, although I did not test whether it maxes out at 100 pounds. Nemo did an excellent job designing and manufacturing this table with high quality materials. I’ve packed my gear on top of it, used it as a cutting board, and let my kid climb on it with no problems. I have no doubt that this little table will be a great addition to my family and I on many more camping trips.

Portability, packability and campsite ergonomics

Nemo Moonlander is incredibly portable as it is compact and relatively lightweight. It easily fits in my SUV or truck, leaving plenty of room for my other camping gear. However, it does take up a lot of valuable real estate in a backpack, so I wouldn’t take it on a long backpacking trip, but it would come in handy on short (a few days) backcountry camping trips. I found this double height table very useful in camp, especially when I forgot to bring plates. It’s ideal for one or two people, but definitely not for large groups due to its small size.

Who is it for / Who should leave it

The Nemo Moonlander Dual Height Table is ideal for SUVs, trucks, and tent campers as it is compact and versatile. Backpack campers will find this useful if they are willing to sacrifice any other gear or strap it to the outside of their pack. If you’re trying camping for the first time, this is one piece of equipment you don’t need, especially if you plan to stay at a campground with picnic tables.

Value and price-to-performance

At $160, this mini table is expensive, but it does everything it claims. This has been a nice tool, especially when I forgot to bring plates on my off-grid hunting trips, but it’s by no means mandatory. It has kept the mess out of my food, but there are certainly less expensive options that can perform just as well.

Verdict: Nemo Moonlander Dual Height Table Review

While the Nemo Moonlander Dual Height Table is expensive, it delivers on every promise. I have found it very useful on many camping trips and have been impressed by its quality in a number of environments. It’s compact (the size of a laptop when folded), easy to install (takes only a few seconds), and versatile (multiple heights and uses). This instantly became an essential pack for most of my adventures, so if you can get over the high price, you won’t be disappointed.

A premium, compact camping table that excels in durability, setup, and versatility across multiple camping styles, though its $160 price tag is steep compared to alternatives.
