Nancy Guthrie Update: Pima County Sheriff issues major statement on new video claim

Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, is responding to a major new report that claims there may be video in the Nancy Guthrie case.

Nano made this comment during an interview But KVOI AM1030buckmaster show On Friday, June 26, 2026. They do not believe the new claims, including the possible video and suspicious address, are genuine. That show is based in Tucson, where Nancy lives.

“I think the FBI has made several arrests for false or counterfeit ransom notes,” Nano told the hosts, according to newsweek. “It’s a shame that it happens, but I think we’re looking at another one of those today.” Newsweek reported that he was specifically referring to the note sent to TMZ about the video, although there have been other claims of a ransom note.

The fate of Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her Tucson home on February 1, remains unknown, even though the FBI and sheriff previously released scary door cam photos showing a masked and armed suspect.

TMZ reported On June 26, the outlet received a new note, authenticated by the same account as the previous note, demanding Bitcoin.

The new note is “from a person claiming to know his identity.” Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers, and this time they say they have “the main person” and video of the day Nancy died,” TMZ revealed.

He added, “I’m not the idiot who recently called in Mexico about her burial site,” and he denied reports that the previous ransom note was written by a woman, TMZ reported.

“I have a phone hidden in a secure location that guarantees both the security of the information stored in it and the security of the phone itself,” the email said, according to TMZ. He adds, “What it included is my definition of delivered to them on a silver platter, a short video of the main person with Nancy on what was probably her last day, photos of both of them involved, names and addresses and ages.” He also claimed that there were two kidnappers, the entertainment site reported.

Sheriff Chris Nanos says Nancy Guthrie investigation ‘ongoing’

The sheriff didn’t say anything else on the show. According to Newsweek, he said, “I can’t tell you much more on this, because that would be unfair. It’s ongoing.”

He also said that high-profile cases could lead to counterfeiting, saying, according to Newsweek, “It’s a shame that these types of incidents happen, people are so interested… It’s good because it helps us, but then it’s actually misused.”

“People who call in fake ransom notes, people who make claims to the media and family, they come out and, in this case, harass entire neighborhoods.”

There is a big reward in the case. Authorities have said they have ruled out only Guthrie’s children and their spouses as possible suspects in the missing-person case, which they believe was a kidnapping. According to the sheriff’s previous press conference, they found drops of Guthrie’s blood on his front stool.
