Manchester United not prioritizing World Cup star Manu Kone despite interest

Manchester United’s transfer ambitions have taken a dramatic turn as the club’s interest in World Cup sensation Manu Kone has been thrown into doubt, despite growing speculation linking the French midfielder with a blockbuster move to Old Trafford. Michael Carrick is determined to add steel and dynamism to United’s midfield, with the Red Devils having already secured Andre Santos and ready to finalize the arrival of Youri Tielemans after a successful medical. Yet following the departure of Casemiro and the injury blow to Manuel Ugarte, the search for an impactful presence in front of the defense has intensified.

Amidst persistent rumours, Borussia Monchengladbach powerhouse Kone has emerged as a name circulating amongst United’s recruitment hierarchy, particularly following his stellar World Cup performances for France – where he was given priority over United’s leading target Aurelien Tchoumeni. AS Roma have indicated their openness to a sale and a reported £47 million valuation would not bother INEOS, with many expecting United to make a decisive move for the 23-year-old.

However, The Athletic’s Karl Anka made a surprising revelation on the “Talk of the Devil” podcast, stating that Cone is not currently a priority for the 20-time English champions. “I don’t have the phone book of Lawrie Whitwell and Andy Mitten, but from what I can tell and when I tried to check on Friday – Manu Kone is not on Manchester United’s shortlist,” Anka announced, casting serious doubt on the possibility of a quick deal.

This stance does not explicitly rule out a future outlook for the France international, but it does indicate a cautious and calculated approach from United as they consider their midfield options. The Red Devils are also monitoring Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, although talks are complicated due to the south coast club’s high demands. Meanwhile, United’s interest in World Cup breakout star Ayoub Bouadi is being hampered by a huge demand from Lille.

The Manchester United board faces a tense and decisive period, with fans demanding clarity over the club’s final midfield acquisition. The transfer focus is not limited to midfield: Michael Carrick is believed to be seeking reinforcements on the left wing, a backup striker, and potentially a new full-back should Noussair Mazraoui depart before the window closes.

The coming weeks promise relentless activity and headline-grabbing moves at Old Trafford, as United’s decision-makers navigate a frantic market in search of the quality and depth needed to restore the club to its former glory.
