A good friend of mine once suggested that, in terms of the alphanumeric designations used by most dirt bike manufacturers, we’re basically speaking a foreign language to those unfamiliar. And I can’t think of a better example than the recent announcement of the 2027 KTM 500 EXC-F 6DAYS.
For those who don’t know, “EXC-F” stands for Enduro Cross Country – Four-Stroke, which is a series of letters used by the Austrian brand to denote both the intent of the machine and the type of engine powering it. “500” tells us how big that powerplant is, and “6Days” is a tribute to one of the toughest tests an enduro rider can face, the International Six-Days Enduro (ISDE).
But for the layman, this series of letters and numbers could also be written in some ancient dialect.
However, for those in the know, the unveiling of KTM’s latest EXC-F lineup should come as no surprise. These machines capture a large portion of the enduro market, coming straight from the factory with headlights, taillights, turn signals and most importantly license plates.
So, I was surprised to see the phrase, “get ready to race” in the lead Press release just issued by KTM – which highlights the company’s latest range of EXC-F machines.
Of course, you can strip the EXC-F of all its dual-sport goodies and take it to the track or take it to a local ISDE-style race. But if these are supposed to be the ultimate double play offering, why not say so?

Instead, The press release says “The dual-sport range elevates its attitude with new styling, enhancing its unmistakable ready-to-race identity,” and “Beneath the attractive looks is the same battle-proven platform that continues to set the benchmark for street-legal off-road performance.”
Wait, is that a race bike or a bright orange dual-sport? TL;DR: It’s both.
For 2027, KTM is releasing three models under the EXC-F designation – the 350 EXC-F, 500 EXC-F and 500 EXC-F 6DAYS. All of these machines share the same DNA as the brand’s championship-winning enduro line (see: EXC) and, as I mentioned above, are factory-equipped with street-legal equipment – a spot on the rear for lights and signals and an aluminum rectangle.
Our race-ready friend from Austria says, “The range features KTM’s advanced chassis architecture, class-leading WP suspension and hard-hitting 4-stroke engines in the EXC-F lineup, delivering explosive power, precise handling and consistent durability.”
To translate, these are essentially EXC machines with the added benefit of being street legal. However, in the final stage, they need more than just lights and license plates; This also means they must meet strict road-homologation and emissions requirements from the factory, which naturally restricts their overall power and throttle response.
KTM didn’t mention that part in the press release.

The 2027 KTM EXC-F 6DAYS features an exclusive color and graphic package inspired by the Portuguese landscape and national colors. It aims to honor the 100th running of the historic ISDE race (now called the 6DAYS FIM Enduro of Nations), which is scheduled to take place in Portugal from October 12-17, 2026.
The 6DAYS model is equipped with a “race-focused package of high-end components”, including semi-floating front brake discs and solid rear brake discs, CNC-machined triple clamps, a skid plate and frame protection set, as well as a number of orange bits and pieces and custom graphics intended to distinguish the 6DAYS model from the standard 500 EXC-F.
As KTM suggests, the three models available in the 2027 EXC-F lineup are “race ready,” with the 6DAYS variant being the most focused, but they are also dual-sport machines that can be driven on public roads to trail heads. And for many people, adding a license plate can mean the difference between being able to ride and not (I’m looking at you, California).

So, if you’re willing to sacrifice some power for the sake of license plate space, or you don’t have the option, these EXC-F machines make for great dual-sport, because if we’re being honest, they’re just race bikes with extra lights, right?
Pricing for the 2027 KTM 350 EXC-F starts at $13,049, while the 500 EXC-F not only adds more cubic centimeters, but adds a $450 premium at $13,499. The MSRP of the 500 EXC-F 6DAYS model is $14,699, which is $1,200 more than the standard 500 model.
The 2027 KTM EXC-F models will begin arriving at authorized dealers this summer and are backed by a premium 1-year manufacturer’s warranty.
