The bikes from Arc Motorcycles have unmatched presence. They’re low, the engine sits proudly in the center, and they almost appear to be made from one solid piece of aluminum. There is a heaviness about them that is unmistakeable. Yet, the prototype motorcycle that Arc guards Hollinger and Keanu Reeves raced in MotoAmerica’s Super Hooligan class last season doesn’t exactly follow that ethos.
Racing isn’t just about power, it’s about weight and agility, and as good as Arc’s normal motorcycles are, they’re not built for the track. But Hollinger and Reeves wanted to go racing, and Roland Sands’ SuperHooligan class on the MotoAmerica racing calendar proved to be the perfect opportunity to pass up, as it’s basically a run-what-you-bring series where almost anyone can compete.
However, they will be going up against the big giants of the series, i.e. Harley and Indian, as well as Ducati, KTM, Lightfighter and Yamaha. And to make things even more interesting, the two founders of the company decided to record the whole thing and make a documentary about their campaign, which will debut next month and is titled Hooligans: The Arc Racing Project.
After watching the first cadre of episodes, if you’re a fan of Ark, Guard and Keanu and Super Hooligan Racing or motorcycle racing in general then it’s definitely worth your time. Heck, maybe this is my cue to finally start pavement racing?
The show will debut on Samsung TV Plus, which bills itself as “a premium global entertainment service committed to delivering extraordinary experiences for everyone and every moment… The streaming service offers more than 4,300 ad-supported linear channels in 30 countries and is exclusively accessible on activated Samsung devices.” This means that if you have a Samsung device, excluding a fridge and washing machine (come on, I have both), you’ll be able to stream the series for free.
As for the show, it follows the efforts of the Guard and Keanu, along with the team from the Ark and beyond, as they enter the exciting arena of Super Hooligan Racing. There are obviously trials and tribulations, as the team doesn’t have a lot of time or cash to put into the series compared to teams like Indian or Harley-Davidson, which have specialized race teams with massive support structures. It sounds strange, but in terms of size Arch Motorcycles is basically a family business. It’s a mom and pop compared to giant companies like Wal-Mart, so the team is lean and mean, and they’re tasked with getting everything done right.
According to the press release, “Hooligan: Arc Racing Project Chronicles Reeves and Hollinger, founders of ARCH Motorcycles, as they move from building world-class machines to competing in the high-stakes world of professional racing in MotoAmerica, America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, where they compete against the best in the Super Hooligan National Championship. With the same precision, craftsmanship and relentless drive that defines their brand, the ARCH team is ready to prove that they can hold their own against the giants of motorsports.
The show will debut on July 12 on Samsung TV Plus, and will run a total of six episodes detailing the team’s Super Hooligan season. I won’t spoil it, but the story is exactly what you’d expect from the duo, as it has heart and lightness and, most of all, motorcycles.
oh yes, and ride separately The two may have been interviewed about everything, so stay tuned…
