Sad news came in the film world this week tmz News first broke Thursday that longtime director Chuck Russell had died unexpectedly at his San Diego home at the age of 74.
Russell made his directorial debut in 1987 A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream WarriorsBut he really made his name with the classic 1994 comedy mask Starring Jim Carrey.
Hours after the news of Russell’s death broke, Carey issued a statement Sharing a heartfelt tribute via TMZ.
Carrey said, “I consider it a privilege to work with Chuck Russell, who created a warm, childlike atmosphere of wonder and camaraderie on his set, during the shooting of The Mask.”
He added, “The entire cast and crew were impressed and inspired by her playfulness.” “Each of us has been blessed with that euphoric and timeless moment for many years. I consider The Mask one of the jewels of my creative life. Thank you, Chuck.”
Carrey really took the comedy world by storm in the 1990s, and while The Mask wasn’t his first hit, it certainly helped him move toward becoming one of the all-time great actors in the genre.
Russell worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1996 rubber and later directed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s first leading role in 2002. Scorpion King.
