When it comes to famous running shoes, few brands hold as much importance as the HOKA name. Whether training for your first 5K or preparing for another marathon, the brand’s signature cushioned ride has made it a favorite among runners of all different experience levels. The Clifton shoe line is always highly recommended, with a reputation as one of the best everyday trainers. HOKA recently released their Clifton 11, the latest update to the beloved shoe line.
Cliftons have been in my running shoe rotation for years, having put a lot of miles on previous models. After testing the new Clifton 11 smoothly and for long periods of time, I found that the latest version stays true to what made it so popular in the first place. It still offers a comfortable cushioned ride and lightweight feel that makes it just as suitable for running as it is for walking or spending all day on your feet. Here’s how the Clifton 11 is and whether it’s worth the upgrade.

HOKA’s Clifton line is known as one of the most reliable daily trainers on the market, and I’ve personally gone through several pairs over the years. In fact, after recovering from a knee injury, the Clifton became my favorite running shoe because of its cushioning. Since then, I’ve used a variety of running shoes for different needs, but connecting with the Clifton 11 reminded me why this model has stood the test of time.
The Clifton 11 features HOKA’s compression-molded EVA foam midsole, a breathable engineered mesh upper, and their signature MetaRocker geometry to create a smooth heel-to-toe transition. Small updates, including reflective details, tactile silicone touchpoints and a double-lace lock on the tongue, improve the overall fit and finish. The fit is true to size and roomy.
I tested the Clifton 11 on several easy three-mile runs before taking it for a longer 10-mile run. In my opinion, the latest iteration is best suited for easy-paced miles, recovery runs, walks, and any activity where you’re spending hours on your feet doing long runs and fast-paced work. The cushioning is comfortable with enough firmness to keep the shoe stable on your feet. Although the Clifton 11 isn’t the lightest daily trainer available, it certainly isn’t heavy either.
Overall, if you’re already a Clifton fan, the Clifton 11 is a worthwhile upgrade. While it probably won’t become my personal shoe for every run, I’ll happily wear it for long walks or whenever I know I’ll be on my feet for several hours.
