Warning: The following contains spoilers dragon house Season 3, Episode 1
The dance of dragons is now in full swing. hbo dragon house Season 3 arrived with a roar, with some fire and blood. The much-awaited next chapter based on the brutal family civil war george rr martinCompendium of the Targaryens fire and bloodThe bloodiest naval battle in Westerosi history began with the Battle of Gullet.
In Season 3, Episode 1, Rhaenyra (emma d’arcy) contemplates Alicent (olivia cook) offer from Season 2 finaleWhile Damon (Matt Smith) breaks it into the Riverlands, finally freeing Harrenhal from the House of Horrors. Roddy the Ruin (tommy flanagan) makes a fashionable entrance with the Winter Wolves (and Jason Lannister’s head). Meanwhile, Ormond Hightower (james norton), Alicent’s clever cousin, lies in wait with his giant Hightower host (and my beloved dragon girl Tessarion the Blue Queen).
Let’s consider five main points from this dragon house Season 3 Premiere:
Damon is doing what he does best
Our evil prince is back to wreak havoc as best he can – decked out in full Targaryen armor with a sword in hand and blood on his face. And, of course, there’s Carexes in the background, emitting its adorable chirp before setting people on fire. While I enjoyed the magical aspects of Harrenhal in Season 2, Daemon felt trapped in that dilapidated castle for too long. We need at least one character who behaves chaotically but with intention.
Larrys and Egon, our resident odd couple
If anyone can fight his way out of a sudden execution, it’s Larry Strong (Matthew Needham). Something tells me that Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and the Larrys won’t actually be able to reach Dragonstone, but they also won’t be able to reach Essos as planned. Whatever the case, Aegon himself would like to investigate whether his precious dragon Sunfire In fact dead. These two are fun together, and I think we’ll get some unexpected moments of excitement from their dynamic.
Magical Secrets of Harrenhal
dragon house The trend towards season 3 continues The magic around Harrenhal above. While Ulf (Tom Bennett), Adam (clinton liberty), and Hugh (Kieran Beau) Wait for Emond (evan mitchell) and Whangar’s arrival (presumably) on the Isle of Faces, where he encounters a Green Man, a strange goat, and Alice Rivers (Gail Rankin), our favorite barn owl who is cursed to live in human form. It makes sense that there is a lot of magic here; After all, dragons are still at their peak, and they are inherently magical.
new character introduction
The introduction of Ormond and Roddy is fantastic, especially the latter. Book readers know that Roddy is a beast, and he gets an introduction worthy of a warrior who is willing to “die” for his queen. Ormond is not that developed fire and bloodBut I have a feeling he’ll become one of my favorite characters. You don’t bring in James Norton for a bit part. Here’s hoping he’s the driving force behind Team Green as they look completely directionless at the moment.
Battle of Gullet

Ollie Upton/HBO
I saved the best for last. It’s a spectacular sight – the scope and scale of it is huge. The production values are through the roof. I also love how non-choreographic and dirty the fights feel. It’s disorganized and rough, as it should be in those tight quarters. Corliss (steve toussaint) and allin (Abubakar Salim) vs Sharko Lohar (abigail thorne) is entertaining to watch. Like (Harry Collett) and Varmax’s deaths are heartbreaking (although I find it more difficult to watch CGI dragons die inexplicably; it must be the animal lover in me).
Although I like Sheepstealer’s design, I’m not a fan of Rehana (phoebe campbell) inadvertently caused Jess’s death (but that’s another article for another day). Despite this, the combat is well executed.
