Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 Cruiser Revealed

Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 Cruiser Revealed

In late October, we got a glimpse of a production-ready version of the Sprint 440, built by Hero for Harley-Davidson. Now, the latter has unveiled it in EICMA 2026, with a UK price of GBP 4,995. At the moment, the US motorcycle maker has only confirmed the motorcycle will reach its home market in Spring 2027.

  1. Swaps the 18-17 wheel setup from the X440 for a 19-17 wheel
  2. Major changes to seat height and overall design to better fit the cruiser aesthetic
  3. Shares the engine and brakes with the X440 series

Harley-Davidson Sprint 440: What do we know?

Based on the X440’s engine, but closer to a quintessential Harley cruiser

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson had revealed the first product built from their joint venture in 2023, the X440. Even though it tried to adapt a cruiser-like stance with a 18-17 front-rear wheel setup, to most it looked like a retro-roadster. With their fourth product, the companies are aiming to change that for good. The Sprint adapts a much closer silhouette of a Harley-Davidson cruiser than the X series of motorcycles, and the company says the latest one is a throwback to a 1961 version with the same name. The shared design language translates to an even taller 19-inch front wheel, which, offset against the 17-inch rear, nicely raises the front of the motorcycle.Harley has also redesigned the fuel tank – which has become smaller by 4.5 litres – the handlebar as well as the exhaust to better fit in line with the aesthetic.

The seat has also been reworked to be much lower than the X440 (805mm), at a pleasantly surprising 671mm. Harley offers an accessory seat to move the seat back by 51mm and taller by 63.5mm, called Tallboy. There’s another accessory seat, aptly named Reach, that moves the rider’s seat closer to the handlebar by 25mm. As a result of the changes to the seat height, the subframe has also been redesigned to be different from that of the X440 as well. Rounding off the changes to the handling are the tyres themselves, with the front becoming 100/90-19 and the rear 150/60R17. For perspective, the X440 has a 100/90-18 front tyre and a 140/70-17 rear. As a result of all these changes, the Sprint 440 weighs 5kg lower, 187kg.

Every other part of the motorcycle is shared with the X440 series. The shared parts start with the engine itself which remains a 440cc, air- and oil-cooled single-cylinder mill making 27hp at 6,000rpm and 38Nm at 4,000rpm. Also carried over is the 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. Suspension setup itself appears to be carried over with the Sprint 440 sporting the same 43mm KYB USD fork and a twin-shock. However, the rear shock mounts slightly more forward and the travel has reduced to account for the lower seat height and the redesigned subframe. Brakes appear to be the same, with a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear, both of which get ABS as standard. Even though most of these changes are straight off the X440 T, the 3.5-inch TFT display appears to be from the original X440. Another common factor between the X440 and the Sprint is that they both lack ride-by-wire as well, meaning the Sprint also lacks ride modes and traction control.

Harley-Davidson has revealed UK prices for the Sprint, which vary according to the colour option. The base Dark Gilliard Grey costs GBP 4,995 (Rs 6.35 lakh) as mentioned earlier but if the Vivid Black or Teal Thunder are more to your liking, they come at a GBP 200 (Rs 25,440) premium. At the moment, we only have launch timelines for the US with Harley expected to reveal plans for other markets at a later date. Though Harley-Davidson hasn’t confirmed as such, as of right now, we don’t expect to see the Sprint 440 in India anytime soon.
