Tommy Gun’s Original Barbershop locations in Greater Victoria are joining a nationwide campaign to raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

The campaign, called Make Your Growmitment, runs from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30 in partnership with Movember, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Locally, the initiative includes two Tommy Gun’s locations in Langford and one at Hillside Shopping Centre in Victoria.

The two-month campaign aims to encourage conversations about men’s physical and mental health while raising money for Movember, a charity focused on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Throughout October, the campaign has focused on awareness, education and encouraging men to speak openly about their health.

Beginning Nov. 1, customers visiting participating Tommy Gun’s

Beginning Nov. 1, customers visiting participating Tommy Gun’s locations will be invited to make donations to Movember at checkout.

Those who donate will also have an opportunity to fill out a paper moustache and add it to a display wall inside the barbershop, creating a visual representation of community support.

“Men will tell their barber things they won’t tell anyone else. That trust means something. With Movember and the OHL and WHL, we’re using it to help men take their health as seriously as their fade,” said Craig Westley, vice-president of operations and marketing at Tommy Gun’s Original Barbershop.

The initiative also extends to hockey arenas across

The initiative also extends to hockey arenas across Canada, where Tommy Gun’s will feature co-branded promotions during OHL and WHL games throughout October and November.

Fans will be able to scan QR codes displayed during in-arena promotions to donate to their local team’s Moustache Cup fundraising efforts.

“The importance of men’s health is something our players, staff, fans, and communities take seriously, and we’re looking forward to participating in Moustache Cup this season to help drive fundraising efforts,” said WHL commissioner Dan Near.

Movember has helped fund more than 1,250 projects worldwide, supporting research and programs aimed at improving men’s health and encouraging stronger social connections.
