GMC is making a new yellow Hummer EV to honor the old H2

When people hear the word “Hummer”, many of them think of the original H2. That rig debuted 25 years ago, which is crazy to think if your brain is still filled with 2000s pop culture references like mine. If AM General hadn’t built the big old box for Citizens at the turn of the millennium, music videos and MTV cribs would look very different. And to honor it, GMC is building the Hummer EV in yellow — yes, you know the shade.

GMC is calling it the Hummer EV Icon 25. It will be made in limited numbers with serialized stripes on the dash, but the press release did not mention how many the manufacturer will make. In any case, you’ll know whether it’s a pickup or an SUV when you see it.

Yellow was the dominant launch color for the H2 in 2002, and it remained throughout the model’s run, ending in the 2009 model year. This time, it’s part of a high-contrast two-tone exterior scheme, as all GMC Hummer EVs are black top and bottom. This is also combined with the jet black interior on the Icon 25 model, although there is very little use of the hero color inside; It only pops up in a few places, like the dash plaque, because the stitching is white and definitely more subtle.

Of course, this is probably the only thing that’s pressed into the entire vehicle. The Hummer EV makes up to 1,160 horsepower in tri-motor 3X spec, or 635 hp in dual-motor 2X trim with the Extreme Off-Road package. You can get the Icon 25 gift on any model; Just don’t ask how much it will cost, because GMC won’t say. Not yet, at least.

These will be available in the US and Canada later this year as 2027 models. GMC is also adding four more exterior colors to the Hummer EV lineup: Dark Ridge, Azurite Blue, Dark Amber, and Deep Void Matte. I’m sorry to say that I don’t know what any of them look like, as the company’s PR people only sent pictures of the yellow ones. Enjoy these heritage shots of the ’02 H2 side-by-side.
