The roadshow gives prospective buyers a first look at pre-production examples of both models before they go on sale in the first quarter of 2027.
The Monjaro EM-i made its Australian debut at the Everything Electric show in Sydney in September, alongside the Emgrand L EM-i, which was first shown locally at the Melbourne Motor Show in April. Both were confirmed for Australia in September.
Pre-order offer
Customers who pre-order either model before 31 December 2026 will receive a complimentary 7kW home EV charger and a complimentary premium paint upgrade valued at $600. Installation of the charger isn’t included.
Premium paint choices for the Monjaro EM-i are Sunlight Gold, Sky Blue, Night Black and Lunar Grey, while the Emgrand L EM-i offers Cloudveil Silver, Polar Black, Volcanic Grey and Glacier Blue.
Monjaro EM-i pre-order customers who choose the all-wheel-drive variant will also receive a complimentary suede-like upholstery upgrade.
Geely Monjaro EM-i
Named after Mount Kilimanjaro, the Monjaro EM-i is a five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV built on the GEA EVO platform. It features Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) suspension and a chassis tuned by Geely Technology Europe.
Geely has previously confirmed a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors, and a battery of up to 40kWh. It claims up to 170km of electric-only range and up to 1137km combined (WLTP), with front- and all-wheel-drive versions on 19- or 20-inch wheels.
The Monjaro EM-i also recently earned a Guinness World Records title for the “Fastest crossing of the Black and White Desert (Sahara) by a plug-in hybrid powered production SUV”. Along the way it was put through five challenges: extreme handling and stability, consecutive steep-slope climbs, cross-axle recovery, ride comfort over rough terrain, and acceleration at a low state of charge.
Geely Emgrand L EM-i
The Emgrand L EM-i is Geely’s first global plug-in hybrid sedan, and it uses the same EM-i technology as the Starray EM-i SUV already on sale here.
It pairs an 11-in-1 electric drive unit with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, and Geely claims more than 1000km of combined driving range. The electric drive unit does most of the work at the wheels, giving it an EV-like feel even at a low state of charge.
Geely’s Australian website lists overseas-specification figures of 185kW, 260Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 6.96 seconds, with an 18.4kWh battery and more than 80km of electric range (WLTP). Local specification may vary.
Inside, there are soft-touch materials and lounge-like seats, and the boot holds 528 litres. Geely’s full suite of active and passive safety features is standard.
How they compare
Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the Monjaro EM-i’s claimed electric range already beats the mid-size plug-in hybrid SUVs it will compete with. The Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid makes 227kW from $58,840 with up to 113km of electric range (AWD, WLTP), and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV makes 221kW from $58,990 with 86km of electric range (WLTP), both before on-road costs.
The Emgrand L EM-i’s clearest rival is the Toyota Camry, now sold only as a hybrid. The Camry starts at $39,990 before on-road costs, with 170kW combined and a claimed 4.0L/100km, and its boot holds 524 litres – slightly less than the Emgrand L’s 528 litres. Unlike the Emgrand L, the Camry can’t be plugged in or driven on electric power alone for long distances.
Australian pricing and final specifications for both models will be confirmed closer to their launch in the first quarter of 2027.
