For centuries, glowing red Chochin lanterns outside Japanese izakayas have signaled good food, cold drinks, and long nights spent with friends. Now, G-Shock is bringing that iconic piece of Japanese culture to the wrist with two stunning new watches: the DW5600AKA-4 and the DW6900AKA-4.
In honor of Izakaya, the two classic G-Shock silhouettes feature red resin cases and bands‘ Red paper wicks, dating from the Edo period of Japan. The faces of the watches are neatly decorated with kanji characters that read “耐行ち”, meaning “shock resistance” in a script that evokes traditional Japanese establishment displays.
The strap is hot stamped to mimic the lantern frame and create dimensionality. The black buttons and band loops reflect classic black lacquered lantern holders and the case back is engraved with an image of Chochin. Each piece offers an orange backlight, intended to reflect the warm glow of a lantern, and costs just $190 each.

Both watches are proudly handcrafted in the Yamagata Casio factory and bear the “Made in Japan” statement. G-Shock delivers each piece in a special decorative box covered in red paint Chochin Lantern artwork and G-Shock logo. Both the DW5600AKA-4 and DW6900AKA-4 feature the brand’s eponymous shock-resistant construction, 200-meter water resistance, a Super Illuminator LED backlight, a multi-function alarm, countdown timer, a stopwatch function, a flash alert, and a full auto-calendar for the year 2099.
Both the DW5600AKA-4 and DW6900AKA-4 are now available for purchase on gshock.com for $190 each, as well as at select G-Shock retailers and the G-Shock SoHo store.
