Receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is considered a prestigious honor in the entertainment industry. The honor symbolizes an artist’s longevity, achievements and overall influence in their respective fields.
Queen Latifah became the first hip-hop artist to receive the star when she was honored in 2006. He paved the way for the genre, which included iconic rappers such as Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, and 50 Cent, who later received their own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
On Wednesday, a famous hip-hop group joined them. Receiving the 2,851st star in the recording category were Cleveland-based rappers Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone and Flesh-N-Bone. Collectively, they are Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
Fat Joe and Ice-T were among the big-name hip-hop stars who graced the event. Both rappers spoke on stage during the ceremony to honor BTNH.
“I always wanted to see my homeboys succeed, man,” lazy bone said. “All I ever wanted in life was for us to prosper… Thank you all for coming out, thank you all for supporting us. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, we’re brothers.”
This long-awaited honor comes 30 years after the group released their biggest rap single, “Tha Crossroads.” Although this 1996 song was not her first hit, it cannot be denied that it was the song that catapulted her to international stardom.
“The Crossroads” debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 before rising to number 1 the following week. It became the fastest single to reach the No. 1 spot since the Beatles first accomplished the feat with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” in 1964.
The track, which was a tribute to the late, great Eazy-E, won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony have released 11 studio albums over the past three decades. His latest is “New Waves”, which he released in June 2017.
