Dubai will require delivery motorcycles to be equipped with smart monitoring devices and cameras starting July 2027 as part of new measures to track rider behavior and improve road safety.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the system will initially be voluntary for delivery companies until June 30, 2027, giving operators time to prepare before compliance becomes mandatory.
The technology will combine an electronic platform, Internet of Things (IoT) devices and advanced cameras installed on motorcycles to monitor how delivery riders operate their vehicles.
It will track speeding, sudden acceleration, hard braking, riding patterns, locations and routes to identify potentially unsafe behavior.
Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring
Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the RTA, said the initiative would change how authorities supervise Dubai’s growing delivery sector.
“The new system represents a major shift in how delivery activities are monitored,” Al Ramsi said.
The technology is designed to replace reliance on conventional inspections with proactive monitoring using real-time data and advanced analytics.
Real-time tracking of delivery riders
Under the system, delivery companies will be able
Under the system, delivery companies will be able to monitor their motorcycle fleets and riders in real time.
The collected data will allow operators to identify unsafe riding practices, take corrective action and develop training programs based on actual rider performance.
Companies can also use the information to improve route management, operational efficiency and service quality.
The RTA said the initiative was developed
The RTA said the initiative was developed in coordination with Dubai Police and other relevant authorities to strengthen compliance with traffic regulations.
Al Ramsi emphasized that cooperation among regulators, delivery companies and riders would be essential to the system’s success.
Mandatory compliance after June 2027
The RTA said delivery operators will have until the end of June 2027 to voluntarily install the monitoring devices and connect their motorcycles to the electronic platform.
After the transition period, participation will become mandatory.
The authority said it would continue coordinating
The authority said it would continue coordinating with delivery companies to help them complete the necessary technical and operational preparations.
The system will also establish a database of delivery operations that authorities can use to improve inspections, regulatory policies and road safety measures.
The initiative comes amid continued growth in Dubai’s delivery industry, with more motorcycles operating on the emirate’s roads to meet demand for delivery services.
