The biggest difference emerges between the two. While the Desert Boot is famous for its crepe sole, the Bushcray replaces it with traditional rubber. And while this may seem blasphemous to some, I would argue that the rubber sole on a chukka boot makes more sense. It lasts for a long time. It provides better traction. And it doesn’t work where it all gets sticky after a while.
Don’t get me wrong. I love crepe sole. They are extremely comfortable and look great. But if you’re asking me what I want in a pair of shoes that will likely last for years, I’d say rubber before you can even throw out the word “crape.”
For the record, if you told us we could only have one pair of Clarks, we’d probably take the Wallaby or Desert Trek. The first, they say, is one of the most impressive casual shoes ever made; The latter is known for its centre-seam design and counts famous menswear nerd Robert Pattinson as a fan. Both are still on sale. But neither of them are flirting with the $50 mark. Bushcray may not get as much recognition, but it’s the best deal in the lineup at the moment.
And if chukka boots seem a little out of step with existing menswear, we’d argue that’s part of the appeal. Some styles persist because they work. The Bushacre is a beautiful, versatile boot from a company that has made beautiful, versatile boots for generations.
Nowadays fifty rupees do not cost much. With this you can get some pizza for late night. Or it could get you a pair of Clarks that you can wear the next time you hit the field.
