The United States’ 250th birthday isn’t just a national milestone — it’s a reminder that our country’s story has always included alcohol to some degree.
The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States is leaning toward that history with its new soul forward campaign, which explores the role played by spirits in American culture, hospitality, and community.
“Long before America had the Constitution, there were distilleries and breweries, places where people gathered, exchanged ideas and found fellowship,” said Chris Swonger, president and CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council. That early drinking culture was not accidental; This helped shape the identity of the country.

The Revolution also marked a turning point in what Americans chose to drink. Cut off from Caribbean molasses due to the British blockade – and increasingly interested in pursuing the rum trade of an empire they rejected – Americans adopted whiskey as a domestic alternative. It was a philosophical shift as well as a practical one: a new nation was choosing a new drink. In this sense, the 250th anniversary is also the anniversary of American whiskey as a uniquely American idea.
To celebrate America’s big birthday and honor this spirited history, spirits and wine brands across the country have released special expressions. These bottles are not just souvenirs; They are a reminder of how wine has shaped the country for 250 years.
