Carson Kvapil electrified Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a dominant performance to capture his first NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory, crowning JR Motorsports with an unprecedented 1-2-3-4 finish in the Pennzoil 250 presented by Tech 5 Oil Change. The 23-year-old pilot of the No. 1 Wild Protein Crackers Chevrolet etched his name in the record books after making 64 series starts, scoring an emphatic win that shocked the entire field and cemented JR Motorsports’ dominance at the famed yard of the Briscoe.
Kvapil’s success came after a flawless drive in which he took the lead on lap 79, overtook Ross Chastain on the straightaway and held on strong under intense pressure. With just 10 laps remaining, Kvapil extended his advantage to 0.82 seconds, holding off a sustained late charge by teammate Justin Allgaier in the No. 7 Brands Professional Agriculture Chevrolet. Allgaier, who started 13th and worked his way through the field, reached the white flag by 0.283 seconds, but ultimately settled for second by 0.643 seconds.
“It means a lot to me,” said an emotional Kvapil after the race. “I walked back on that victory lap and thought about how hard my dad Travis and I had worked to get here, and how much faith Dale Jr., LW Miller and Kelly Miller had in giving me this opportunity. From Lap 1 in practice, the car was a rocketship. I knew we had to make all the right moves and avoid mistakes. This win will be remembered for a long time.” Kvapil’s father, Travis Kvapil, the 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, has witnessed his son’s rise firsthand.
The historic sweep marked JR Motorsports’ third win in the Pennzoil 250, joining previous winners Connor Zylisch and Justin Allgaier, and represented the first time in NASCAR’s second-tier series history that a single team claimed the top four spots. Ross Chastain finished third in the No. 9 Roto-Rooter Chevrolet after leading 31 laps of the race, while Chase Elliott completed the quartet in the No. 88 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet, impressively recovering from a last-place start in the 38-car field.
“I’m disappointed that we finished second,” Allgaier admitted. “We knew the pace of the short races would be tough, but our pace of the long races was strong. Carson worked his hardest to get here, and it’s great to finally see him win.” Jeremy Clements won the first 30-lap stage in the No. 51 Sky Fund Aviation Chevrolet before finishing 37th, and King Carruth claimed the second 30-lap stage by staying out during a critical caution period, ultimately finishing 22nd.
JR Motorsports’ 14 wins in 22 races this season underlines the team’s strong presence in the championship. Kvapil’s victory at Indianapolis is not only a personal milestone, but also solidifies the team’s continued pursuit of excellence under the leadership of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr.
