Aprilia RS 457 GP Replica and Tuono 457 confirmed for Australia

Aprilia’s LAMS Twins range is expanding

Aprilia Australia has confirmed that we’ll be getting both an RS 457 GP Replica and a brand new Tuono 457 as the manufacturer expands its premium LAMS line-up.

The RS 457 GP Replica will be at dealers from August at $13,190 rideaway, with a slightly longer wait for the September arrival of the Tuono 457 nakedbike, which will be the cheapest in the range at $12,290 rideaway. The base RS 457 sits in the middle at $12,890 rideaway.

Tuono 457 – Fun stripped back

The Tuono 457 is, of course, the naked-bike version of the popular RS 457 sportsbike, offering a more upright seating position and a comfortable rider triangle that is often preferred for improved comfort without sacrificing any thrill on the road. There is also an argument to be made that the upright seating position may provide somewhat more thrills at lower speeds than more committed sportsbikes.

Aprilia’s Tuono was traditionally always one of the nakedbikes most closely matched to its sportsbike counterpart, and while this is now a bit more standard, especially within the LAMS category, this was not always the case.

The obvious advantage to the Tuono is a different styling aesthetic that still shares a lot of DNA with the RS, but also generally easier servicing if you’re interested in getting the spanner on yourself, perhaps after your warranty has expired.

The Tuono 457’s 159 kg dry weight and 35 kW provide plenty of performance for a LAMS machine.

Powering the range is a 457 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin that produces 35 kW (just under 50 hp) and 43.5 Nm of torque at 6700 rpm, 80 per cent of which is available from just 3000 rpm, ensuring you get it where you want it for everyday riding.

Preload adjustment on the forks and aluminum frame are standout features

The 159kg dry weight is particularly competitive, with the bike riding on an aluminum twin-spar frame, matched to preload-adjusted 41mm USD forks and a preload-adjusted shock.

ByBre provides breaks

The Bybre provides brakes, backed by a Bosch dual-channel ABS system, which instills a lot of confidence in the situation. It features a large 320 mm floating rotor at the front with a four-piston radial caliper, while a 220 mm rotor moves at the rear.

The 5-inch TFT is clear and well-organized, with RBW electronics underpinning the package

The five-inch full-color TFT provides access to three ride mode settings, as well as three-level traction control and switchable ABS. The Aprilia MIA multimedia platform, which adds smartphone connectivity, is, however, a helpful tool if nav, music and call management are a must.

The Aprilia MIA system will set you back just over $300 for fitment on the Tuono 457

The color options will be Pirahana Red, Puma Grey, and Mantis Purple.

RS 457 GP Replica – Not Just Looks

What sets the RS 457 GP Replica apart is certainly the MotoGP-inspired Aprilia Racing livery in gloss and matte black including sponsor graphics.

However, this isn’t just a styling exercise, it includes Aprilia’s bi-directional quickshifter to sweeten the deal, and offers clutchless up and down shifts. Also, high-friction brake pads are used on the front end for slightly more stopping power.

Additionally you get a single seat cowl, for that proper racy look, with blacked out swingarm, frame and triple clamp, which gives a very sexy look. It seems like it’s a steal at just $300 more than the base model.

Plus the quickshifter is standard!

By way of comparison, the color options for the base model RS 457 are Coral Snake Blue and Arsenic Yellow.
