Brad Binder focused on Ducati for 2027 WorldSBK switch according to BMW rumors
Brad Binder’s future in MotoGP looks almost certain, with the South African star now aiming to make a sensational move to the World Superbike Championship in 2027 – and making it clear he wants to do it on a Ducati, not a BMW.
With KTM’s premier class lineup for 2027 reportedly including Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, Binder’s days at the factory team appear to be numbered. Sources indicate he is also out of contention for a seat in Tech3, bringing his MotoGP career to a close and fueling speculation about his next move.
As the 30-year-old contemplates his future, WorldSBK has emerged as the most likely destination. While many teams are interested, Binder’s choice of preferred bike is not a matter of debate. Despite persistent rumors that he is being linked with a switch to BMW – especially given his current working relationship with Phil Marrone, former crew chief turned double WSBK champion Toprak Razgatlioglu – Binder’s ambitions remain firmly rooted at the Italian brand.
Italian journalist Rosario Triolo, discussing the South African’s intentions, revealed on his YouTube channel: “The last rider left from MotoGP is Brad Binder. Of those I haven’t mentioned, he is the only one left. Brad Binder, however, has already made one thing clear: ‘I’m thinking about going to Superbike, but on a Ducati.’ So Binder effectively wants a Ducati. Which Ducati could be the end of the binder? Certainly, the Satellite is the easiest solution for a team bike binder.
The move comes as BMW is said to be eyeing Moto2 talent Manu Gonzalez for a move to 2027, leaving Binder’s relationship with the German manufacturer uncertain. Meanwhile, MotoGP fans have expressed their support for BMW to sign Binder, but the rider himself remains firm in his preference for Ducati.
Ducati currently fields nine bikes across seven teams in WorldSBK, with five organizations running a single entry. There is speculation that Marc VDS, which currently works with Sam Lowes, could expand to a two-bike operation in 2027 – a scenario that could open the door for Binder. Triolo insisted: “And if I really had to think about a satellite team, I believe Binder might have a chance if they fielded two bikes – as they have been doing for years now – rumor has it – in the Marc VDS team. Because, after all, the people at Binder already have contacts and contracts with Marc VDS for other riders in the past, so who knows – the right bike for Binder could be VDS-branded. Could be a Ducati. Second, should they bring another bike with them, Sam Lowes’ bike.”
As the MotoGP paddock prepares for seismic changes in 2027, all eyes are now on Binder’s next move – and on the prospect of a high-profile Ducati switch that could ignite new excitement across the WorldSBK grid.
