This weekend, Jay-Z celebrates the 30th anniversary of his debut album reasonable doubt and 25th anniversary of outline With three star-studded shows at Yankee Stadium. And the great rapper began the performance with a particularly symbolic sign: A. Video Beyonce is shaving her head.
Just before Jay Z took the stage, the said footage was played on the stadium’s big screen. In it, Jay is wearing a black-and-white 1996 World Series Yankees jersey, black pants and Adidas Superstars, sitting in the exact same stadium seats that were sold out for his show. Bay, wearing a black hooded jacket, takes the clippers to Jay and runs them through his hair. Moments later, Jay-Z appeared in front of a screaming crowd and showed off a crew cut.
This is the rapper’s third hair transformation in just over a month. After wearing a freeform loc for nearly a decade, Jay made headlines in June 2026 when he returned to the stage for the first time in seven years to perform at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, and showed off a new Afro. The look was the result of six days of effort by her hair stylist Leticia “Letty” Ravello told gq It required unwrapping Jay’s wick, moisturizing and conditioning his hair and scalp, and detangling his hair. A video posted on the YouTube channel of Beyoncé’s haircare brand Sacred later showed that she and Jay’s daughter Blue also came to help comb the rapper’s hair.
Kicking off his stint at Yankee Stadium, Roc Nation posted a glimpse of Jay’s rehearsal on Instagram, which showed braids peeking out from beneath his custom Yankees cap. Sometime between then and Friday night, Beyoncé went to work. The crew cut reveal further glorifies Jay’s momentous homecoming, a throwback to his shorter hairstyle from the ’90s, when he was still coming up in the Brooklyn rap game.

Jay’s new look also came in comment from one of the surprise guests he hosted on stage over the weekend, which included Rihanna, Nas and Usher.
“He beat the bear and now the bear cuts his hair,” Pharrell Williams Said During his performance with Jay on Saturday, he performed a medley of their collaboration. “And he put on his helmet. Now he’s going to go to war.”
Williams may have been referring to Jay’s three-minute freestyle rapping during the Roots Picnic, which was technically his first new verse in four years. In it, he takes some shots at other musicians—perhaps the first hint of what we can expect lyrically from Jay whenever he releases new music. Jay’s next batch of shows is scheduled for San Francisco, London and Paris. Meanwhile, an eight-part HBO documentary on Hov’s life, produced by Rick Rubin, is scheduled to be released in the autumn. Jai’s return could lead to something big in the eyes of the people. Whatever the case, his return to his old hairstyle indicates that he is revisiting his roots in more ways than one.
