A WWE official reportedly pushed for a TKO to retain Sheamus before the veteran wrestler left the company.
News came on Sunday that Sheamus was leaving WWE. The 48-year-old reportedly turned down the offer of a restructured contract, ending his 19-year tenure with the promotion.
According to a report by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful SelectA “high-level” WWE office member went to “bat” for Sheamus in hopes of convincing a TKO to retain the four-time World Champion.
Additionally, a source close to “The Celtic Warrior” told WrestleVotes that they think Sheamus is open to working for the rival AEW promotion. His former tag team partner, Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli), left WWE for AEW in 2022.
Sheamus joined the main roster in 2009, winning four World Championships, five tag team titles, and the United States Championship three times. He was one Intercontinental Championship win away from joining the WWE Grand Slam Club.
