Backstage Notes: Update on contract status for the five-time WWE World Champion

The contract of one of WWE’s marquee Superstars is reportedly expiring next year.

during a recent competitive selection question and answer session (h/t 411mania), Sean Ross Sapp touched on the contract status of five-time World Champion Bayley, who has been with WWE for 14 years.

SAP reports that Bailey’s contract expires sometime in 2027. She added that, although other promotions would probably be interested in Bayley, WWE would obviously want to extend her contract.

Additionally, Sapp stated that Bayley could leverage interest from other promotions in negotiations for her next WWE deal. Sapp gave Bailey the idea to work around a rare no-cut clause in his contract.

In the past, it was difficult for WWE to re-sign its top wrestlers to long-term deals. But ever since AEW opened its doors in 2019, we’ve seen WWE lose big-name talents like Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in WWE), Jon Moxley (Dean Ambrose in WWE), Adam Cole, Mercedes Monae (Sasha Banks in WWE) and Adam Copeland (Edge in WWE) to rival promotions.

Bayley is close friends with Monet, so Monet can definitely make a strong case for coming to AEW. We’ll see how things go next year.

Bayley, 37, has won five world championships in WWE (two WWE Women’s/Raw Women’s Championships, two SmackDown Women’s titles, and one NXT Women’s Championship).

Bayley was also victorious in the 2019 women’s Money in the Bank ladder match and the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble. Yes, his work as a wrestler is still far from over. But if Bayley retired today, she would be a lock for the WWE Hall of Fame.
