In one of the most confusing booking decisions in recent memory, WWE decided to put Oba Femi’s world championship match on hold for SummerSlam 2026.
Femi won the King of the Ring tournament by defeating Jey Uso in the finals. The winner was scheduled to receive a championship match at SummerSlam, but Femi instead accepted a Hell in a Cell match challenge from Brock Lesnar. Raw.
Before Femi vs. Lesnar became official, many fans expected Femi to face World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. This year’s pay-per-view will take place on the weekend of August 1–2 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
But I am saying Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t ringside news), Dave Meltzer reported that WWE wanted to take its time in building Fame as the next big thing. Meltzer hinted that WWE is saving Fami vs. Reigns for WrestleMania 43 next year.
“They could have put the Oba over Roman. They could have sat here and said, ‘We have to create a new star. Let’s put the Oba over Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.’ They could do that,” Meltzer said. “But their mentality is just that if it’s a boy, we want to make it…it’s a weird thing. Before, if you wanted to make a boy, you found the right time to make it a boy and did it.
“Now, you have to do it at WrestleMania because if it’s SummerSlam, he’s not strong enough. If it’s on a B pay-per-view…that’s the mentality. You finish him off. The idea is he’s an unbeatable monster, and we take our time getting to WrestleMania.”
Femi defeated Lesnar soundly at WrestleMania, but Lesnar evened the head-to-head series with a win at the Clash in Italy.
Roman Reigns will face Seth Rollins at SummerSlam

during this week’s episode RawIt was announced that Seth Rollins would challenge Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2026.
It remains to be seen what the WWE Championship match will be like. Fans speculated that there would be a title clash between Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, but Sami Zayn won the title in a triple threat match against Gunther and the American Nightmare at Night of Champions.
