Argentina star's wife labels Jude Bellingham 'useless' after World Cup slap footage

Jude Bellingham has hit the headlines after a heated post-match clash with Argentina’s Valentin Barco during England’s World Cup semi-final defeat, prompting a strong reaction on social media from Barco’s wife Yaz Juaregui, who publicly branded the Real Madrid star “useless”.

The incident came shortly after Argentina’s dramatic 2-1 comeback win over England, which secured their place in the World Cup final against Spain. Tempers erupted at the final whistle, with new footage showing Bellingham charging at Barco – who was seen booing England players earlier in the match – and appearing to slap the Chelsea-bound Argentina defender. The confrontation escalated when Morgan Rogers joined the field, causing the officials and England’s back-up goalkeeper Dean Henderson to intervene and separate the players.

Yaz Juarregu wasted no time in expressing her outrage on social media, launching a blistering attack on Bellingham’s conduct. “Better to talk on the field,” she wrote, apparently ending her message with the Spanish word “muerto,” which literally means “dead,” interpreted in this context as “useless.” There was immediate backlash to the post, prompting Juarregu to delete it, but he soon reiterated his point, saying: “I didn’t know you couldn’t celebrate random goals, but you could support a violent person. Switch to a different game if you want to cry so much. Have a nice day.”

The controversial exchange stunned both fans, with critics and supporters criticizing the behavior of both Bellingham and Barco. Footage widely circulated online showed Bellingham making eye contact with Barco after the match and shaking hands before swiftly striking the Argentine’s back. Barkow retaliated by pushing and shoving, creating a tense situation as teammates and staff rushed to restore order.

Despite heated scenes, the referee refrained from awarding any further punishment and Barco—who had previously played for Brighton—was allowed to celebrate Argentina’s victory with his team. Meanwhile, England are yet to regroup for their bronze medal match against France, having lost 2-0 to Spain in the other semi-final.

The outcome of this semi-final encounter has placed increased scrutiny on player conduct and social media reactions, ensuring that there will be high drama and anticipation in both the final and the third-place play-off.
