What’s not to love about a white helmet? Make it out of carbon fiber, add some MotoGP pedigree and make the fit customizable, and you’ve got a lightweight lid that most riders will love. There’s just one catch. It will cost you $1,729…
The helmet in question is AGV’s latest, a limited-edition model of the Pista GP, made famous by nine-time MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi, who wore the Pista GP RR helmet for most of his career. It has been designed by AGV specifically for MotoGP racers, but has now been certified to meet the stringent new ECE 22.06 and DOT safety standards.
The shell is constructed entirely from carbon fiber, which “provides unmatched energy absorption upon impact without sacrificing the helmet’s ultra-lightweight architecture,” according to Press release.
For those unfamiliar, AGV Pista GP RR Sits at the top of the company’s helmet hierarchy and is currently being worn by many MotoGP racers. It features an intense hydration system, developed with input from GP riders, and tips the scale at just 1,450 grams (3.2 lb).
The fit of the helmet can be personalized thanks to a 360-degree “Adaptive Fit” system, which allows riders to completely customize the position and thickness of the upper pad, neck and cheek pads to match their head shape.
The Pista GP RR features AGV’s UltraVision Clear visor, which is 5 mm thick and provides a panoramic 190° horizontal and 85° vertical field of view. The shell was wind-tunnel tested to provide optimal aerodynamics and high-speed stability, aided by an integrated rear spoiler that ensures stability at high speeds and dramatically reduces neck fatigue, according to AGV.
So, if you want the MotoGP look, but don’t care for the weird paint job and custom graphics found on a lot of lids, the Pista GP RR Mono White could be the ultimate subtle statement. With an MSRP of $1,729, the GP-derived helmet offers a lot for fast-paced riders who don’t want to compromise in terms of comfort, visibility, and protection, but you may need some sponsors to help cover the cost.
