A new AMP member

  • Podnews has learned that YouTube is an unnamed member of AMP – the Coalition for Measurement in Podcasting that is seeking to raise measurement standards. A Google spokesperson confirmed to us that “Youtube is participating in AMP-led conversations”. It is widely believed that a “view” in YouTube is 30 seconds of played content – at least for larger shows – aligning with the AMP definition (although YouTube has never published a definition). YouTube is often cited as the most popular destination for podcasts; With Spotify already an announced member, this adds significant credibility to the work of the AMP Task Force.

  • Meanwhile, AMP has withdrawn part of its definition of “play”. Their original press release defined it as “content, audio or video played for up to 30 seconds”. Once per user per session”, the amended text removes any definition of session length, and becomes simply “30 seconds of played content, audio or video”.

  • A new AI podcast company is flooding podcast directories with hundreds of shows. Fastcast, including “The Daily News Now!” There are 603 AI-generated shows under. The brand is now selling sponsorships for individual categories. All shows, hosted by “Cory with the Story”, are brief updates on time.

    • Unlike competing AI podcast company Inception Point AI, Fastcast episodes always acknowledge that they are AI generated: in line with Apple Podcasts content guidelines. In an interview on the Podcast Advertising Playbook podcast, we learned that Inception Point AI has decided not to approve audio for shorter shows.
