Moreira on the save: “I tried to push a little harder”
Moreira described the moment as a surge of pure adrenaline, explaining, “This curve is complicated, so in the end, I tried to push a little harder.” Despite the risk, he managed to regain control, impressing both fans and competitors alike.
“I was going very fast on that lap, especially in that sector,” he added during a post-session interview with MotoGP. “It was the last corner, and I wasn’t quite prepared for the maneuver. But we have the data and the lap time, so now it’s about putting it all together for tomorrow.”
Growing confidence on the Honda
His performance reflected a rapid adaptation to the Honda machinery, with Moreira expressing growing confidence aboard the bike. “I feel like I can ride now, I can play with the bike,” he said. “In FP1, we already had a good run, setting a time on the second lap. The bike is working differently—much better—and it’s easier to handle.”
Moreira also highlighted the improvements in his lap times, noting that he lowered his best from a 53-second benchmark during testing to a 57.5-second lap under controlled conditions in practice. This progress underscores his rapid development and increasing comfort on the Sepang asphalt, which he described as deteriorated compared to previous tests.
“Yesterday, when I was cycling, I noticed the track surface was very rough, quite different from the test,” he remarked. “It’s normal, and when you’re behind another rider, it’s even harder. I can’t imagine how tricky the race will be because of it.”
Looking ahead to tomorrow
Though the young rider narrowly missed advancing, his fearless approach and technical skill mark him as one to watch. “We just have to try to do everything right tomorrow,” Moreira concluded, emphasizing determination and readiness to capitalize on the next session.
Diogo Moreira’s stunning recovery and rapid pace in Sepang confirm his potential to make a significant impact in MotoGP, signaling a promising future for the Brazilian on the world stage.
