What are the defects?

Due to a supplier manufacturing problem, the crankcase ventilation system may have a blocked breather port. This can result in excessive pressure building up in the crankcase, creating a risk of unexpectedly spilling hot oil if the dipstick is removed while the engine is running or warm.

What are the dangers?

If a person comes in direct contact with hot engine oil it can cause severe burns or eye injury.

What should consumers do?

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Harley-Davidson and asked to schedule an appointment to have the airbox backplate breather port on their motorcycle inspected and, if necessary, have the breather port repaired free of charge.
