Flanagan and his writing team are taking carry A new direction for this miniseries. carry is one of King’s shortest books, so this new adaptation will expand on the source material. in an interview with Entertainment WeeklyFlanagan explained, “Normally, when you’re adapting a Stephen King book, the mission is completely different. It’s about, How do you make it smaller? (…) It was quite the opposite. If we’re going to tell Carrie White’s story for a long time, how do we expand on it?”
carry This new adaptation will also be modernized, exploring how technology has changed the way teenagers socialize, connect with each other, and (yes) bully each other.
“The themes that Steve was talking about half a century ago, about kindness versus cruelty, empathy and bullying, and school violence, have become more relevant today than he could have imagined because of our relationship with technology and the extent to which violence has encroached upon our high school students, especially in the United States.” Entertainment Weekly Interview.
The series will also expand on Carrie’s background. Following the death of her father, Carrie is sent to public school for the first time in her life, which helps explain her status as an awkward outsider from the beginning of the film. Carrie will be played by Summer Howell (Hunter Hunter, Night of the Reaper).
Samantha Sloyan, who worked with Flanagan Hush, The Haunting of Hill House, The Midnight Club, And Fall of the House of UsherPlays Carrie’s controlling, ultra-religious mother, Margaret White. The rest of the cast includes: Sienna Agudong as popular girl Sue Snell, Joel Ouellette as Sue’s boyfriend Tommy Ross, Amber Midthunder as gym teacher Rita Desjardins, Alison Thornton as school bully Chris Hargenson, and Arthur Conti as Chris’s boyfriend Billy Nolan. And of course, Matthew Lillard (the actor you know and love scream) also plays high school principal Henry Greeley in the series.
Fans of the Stephen King novel can expect its themes and several key plot points carry It has to remain the same. However, the series will differ from the source material in several ways. Expect surprises and a reimagining of the story you know and love.
