Dusan Vlahovic’s Juventus return: a blockbuster comeback or a risky gamble?
Dusan Vlahovic, once the charismatic face of Juventus’ attack, stands at the center of an explosive transfer saga after being left without a club following the expiry of his contract in June. The Serbian striker, who scored an impressive 68 goals in 168 appearances for the Bianconeri in four and a half seasons, is reportedly ready to negotiate a sensational return to Turin – a development that could send shock waves through Serie A.
Despite high-profile links with European giants such as Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich, Vlahovic has yet to receive a formal offer from any of these clubs. Tuttosport report that his future is up in the air and the 26-year-old has contacted Juventus directly and expressed his desire to seek a new contract and restart his career at the club where he once flourished. The only concrete offer on the table has come from his former Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano, now at Besiktas, underlining the unpredictable nature of Vlahovic’s current predicament.
Juventus’ internal dynamics have made the situation more complex. Under the leadership of former director Damien Comolli, the club failed to meet Vlahovic’s demands for a lucrative contract and signing bonus. New CEO and general manager Giovanni Carnevali has taken a cautious approach, revealing in late June, “Personally, I have never spoken to Vlahovic. Anything is possible in football; there may be possibilities tomorrow that do not exist today.” Carnevali’s comments indicate a door that is neither firmly closed nor decisively open.
Meanwhile, the transfer market has left Vlahovic in a rare position for a player of his stature – he remains the most valuable free agent available, yet Europe’s elite have hesitated to make a move. His strong personal relationship with his former Juventus teammates and his proactive approach to rejoining the Bianconeri hierarchy further fueled speculation of a possible reunion.
Juventus faces its own uncertainties. Talks with PSG for Kolo Muani have stalled, and according to Sportitalia, preliminary contact has been made with Parma regarding Matteo Pellegrino. The club are also awaiting offers for Lois Openda and Jonathan David, both of whom are reportedly not in manager Luciano Spalletti’s plans.
With the transfer window in full swing and Juventus’ attacking options constantly changing, the prospect of Vlahovic’s return is one of the most compelling questions in Italian football. Carnevali’s measured words – “He is an important player, but not in our thoughts today” – leave the door open for a dramatic turn in the Bianconeri’s summer.
