three friends! Opened in theaters on December 12, 1986. Starring Martin, Short, and fellow funnyman Chevy Chase, the comedy western answers the call for out-of-work actors to become heroes. Unfortunately for him, he assumed he was signing up for an acting program, not to play a cowboy. Here is the official synopsis of the film:
“In 1916, a young woman from the village of Santa Poco takes three unemployed silent film stars to Mexico to help them deal with the brutal El Guapo and his gang.
“Seizing the opportunity to earn some much-needed cash, the Amigos head south of the border, but soon discover they are as misunderstood as their on-screen heroic characters.

Personally speaking, I think it’s one of those movies where you understand why it wasn’t nominated for an Oscar or a Golden Globe, but the folklore of the film is so big that it’s become a classic. In the late ’80s, Martin, Short, and Chase were becoming comedy giants, so having them all in the same movie was huge. Plus, there are some moments that can actually make moviegoers laugh, and that people can probably still quote today.
