This new camper has one king bed, two slide-outs, and no overland fantasy

Not every travel trailer needs to look like it was designed for survival on Mars. Some campers just want an actual bed, a comfortable place to sit, a useful kitchen, and enough floor space for the dog to sleep without tripping danger.

This is where the new Grand Design Imagine 2700BS starts to make sense.

Grand Design has refreshed its Imagine travel trailer lineup for 2026, and the 2700BS has one of the more interesting floorplans because it doesn’t try to be an off-grid spaceship. It’s a traditional American travel trailer aimed at those who want comfort, smart packaging and practicality without stepping into six-figure overland fantasy territory.

According to Grand Design, the Imagine 2700BS measures 31 feet, 8 inches in length and has a listed unloaded vehicle weight of 7,180 pounds. The gross vehicle weight rating is 10,195 pounds, while the hitch weight is listed at 760 pounds. This puts it outside of small-camper territory, but still in the world of towable RVs rather than large-scale motorhomes.

The layout is the main story. It’s a two-person camper with two slide-outs, a rear living area with theater seating, a side kitchen, a walk-through bathroom, and a front bedroom. Sleeping capacity is officially listed as two, which tells you who this trailer is really for. This is not a bunkhouse for a football team. This is a couples camper for people who want real living space rather than pretending that climbing into a narrow bed after dinner is part of the adventure.

Up front, the 2700BS gets a 70-by-80-inch RV king bed. It’s not quite the same as a residential king, but in travel trailer terms, it’s still a welcome upgrade over the usual sleeping arrangements that help adults bend themselves into the shape seen in high school gymnastics class.

The remainder of the floorplan is based on everyday utility. The kitchen area includes a microwave, refrigerator, pull-out pantry tray and useful counter space, while the living area features theater seating and a flip-up table with a telescoping TV. There’s also a 22-foot awning outside, as well as an auxiliary hitch, spray port, universal docking station, pass-through storage, and washer/dryer readiness in the front.

These aren’t the type of features that make a camper go viral on Instagram, but these are the features owners notice after a few weekends. Muddy shoes, dog hair, road dust, spilled coffee and pots rattling in the kitchen are more common than crossing the Arctic Circle.

A comprehensive imagine refresh also makes sense. Grand Design says the lineup receives updated interior materials and styling, including new cabinetry, residential-style flooring, a new kitchen backsplash, lighted bath mirrors, pet-friendly features, improved kitchen storage, and Richlume vinyl upholstery designed to better resist hydrolysis, which is one reason RV seating can warp and discolor over time.

This may not look as dramatic as a camper that generates its own power or an overland trailer that looks ready for a desert expedition. But imagine 2700bs Feels refreshingly honest. It’s built around a more familiar type of American travel: hooking up a trailer, driving to some beautiful place, setting up an tent, making dinner, and enjoying the fact that one doesn’t have to sleep in a tent.

Trivia isn’t always exciting. But in the RV world, this may be what makes a camper worth noting.
