Chevrolet has recently taken its latest shot at one of the most competitive and profitable automotive segments in America. The 2027 Silverado is all new, and Chevy is doing more for off-roaders than ever before. Think Z51 off-road standard on more 4×4 trucks, taller tires on the Trail Boss and Raptor-matching 35s on the ZR2 – plus a pair of bigger V8 engines for even more rock-crushing torque.

Chevy just announced some details today, although many specifications and pricing are still under wraps. Here’s what we know so far and what outdoor users can expect.

Almost every 2027 Silverado gets off-road equipment

Yes, the Silverado 4×4 now comes with Chevrolet’s long-running Z71 off-road package as standard equipment. The package includes shocks and springs for off-road driving, hill-descent control for steep and slippery grades, and skid plates to protect delicate parts underneath.

However, this is all a bit confusing, as the Silverado is now a truck as well as a trim. It replaces the LT in the lineup, so it now goes to the Work Truck, Custom, Silverado, High Country and ZR2, which includes the Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss. So your Silverado is ready to take on the toughest terrain.

ZR2 rubber goes longer, and Bison continues to roam

Chevy’s changes to the ZR2 are more straightforward. For 2027, the truck still comes with a 2-inch lift and Multimatic’s killer DSSV dampers that can soak up almost any terrain. It now offers suspension dampers that turn on when the truck bottoms out, keeping it from slamming into the frame when you’re blasting through the desert or over rocks.

There are a ton of full-size trucks out there, and there was one truck where the ZR2 fell behind. Its standard off-road tires measured just 33 inches tall, an impressive number but far behind those of Ford’s F-150 Raptor and the Ram TRX. Now, Chevrolet has filled out 35 cars to compete with its competitors when it comes to driving things.

The ZR2 Bison also returns. American Expedition Vehicles is sending Chevy its front and rear bumpers, rocker guards and thick skidplates. The Bison has new tires, and it’s a new truck, but nothing else special has been added to it this time.

Even Trail Boss trucks get more rubber

Both the Custom Trail Boss and Trail Boss also get upgrades. They both come with a 2-inch lift like the previous generation, but Chevrolet has upgraded the 32-inch tires to 34s on both. Trail Boss trucks will also feature tow hooks, special wheel designs and other small details such as visual identifiers, red-edged seatbelts and trim-specific interior accents.

Chevrolet has not announced specifications for the new trucks. It loves to drag out things like tow rating and horsepower, but it’s a safe bet that the 2027 Silverado will at least match a properly equipped 2026 with a 13,300-pound maximum tow rating. The same applies to the 2,380-pound maximum payload.

Two new V8s for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

As for horsepower, the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado will offer two all-new engine options. The 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder continues from 2026, and the 3.0L Duramax diesel fuel-sipper also carries over. Two new V8 engines, one with a 5.7L and the other with a 6.6, both larger than the engines they replaced.

The new generation of General Motors V8 should provide more power and torque. Chevy says the 6.6 will have better fuel economy as well as the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the class.

Apart from the new styling, softening of the edges and changes to the face, the 2027 Silverado will have some technological upgrades. The 16.3-inch center display means more screen than ever before. This and a 12.2-inch digital dash are standard across the board, and if that’s not enough, the ZR2 and High Country add an 11.5-inch passenger screen.

Chevrolet plans to announce more details, including Price determinationAs the truck gets closer to production. It will be before the end of the year, so stay tuned.
