2027 RAM TRX First Drive/Jump: Can You Really Feel the Extra 75 HP?

It’s time to put the new 2027 RAM TRX to its first real-world test. Let’s go as fast as we dare and jump off the truck into the Motocross Park. Yes! Can you really feel the extra 75 horsepower from the updated new 6.2L supercharged Hellcat V8 engine? Let’s dig!

Power is above 702 hp 777 hp At 6,500 rpm. Redline rose to 250 rpm, and this engine continued to produce awesome power all the way to redline. Is it possible to unlock even greater power? Only time will tell.

I drove several of the new TRX trucks on the street, on the highway, and off-road. My impression is that the new engine revs faster than before, and it turns this heavy pickup truck into a missile (the truck weighs about 6,900 pounds). The TRX is equipped with Adjustable Launch Control mode. You can brake-torque it, and it can spin all four 35-inch all-terrain tires on pavement.

Ram says that a 3.5-second 0-60 MPH&A 12.2-second 1/4-mile is possible. I was unable to verify these claims at this first-drive event. However, you can rest assured that we already have a drag race planned.

Ram designed an off-road course with two different jumps. A jump has a sharp launch point. You don’t want to get this wrong. Ram says take it at 45 MPH and he means it. If you go too fast, the truck will want to dive. The second jump has a more gentle slope and landing area. You can go as slowly or as fast as you dare on this. Since the course is quite short, I saw a top speed of about 62 MPH on this jump. In both cases the truck descends slowly. This is a testament to the Bilstein Blackhawk E2’s actively adjustable shocks.

To answer the question: Yes, you can feel an extra 75 horsepower and an extra 40 lb-ft of torque. The truck is just as eager to be launched. We can’t wait to test it further.
