BORDENTOWN, N.J. (WPVI) –A 13-year-old girl has passed away after being struck by a vehicle while she was riding a scooter in Bordentown Township, New Jersey.
The incident happened just before 2:30 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Route 130 and Route 662.
Authorities said the girl was transported to a hospital after being hit by a pickup truck.
Witnesses told Action News the teen was riding with another girl, attempting to cross the street when the crash occurred.
“I saw two little girls about to cross the street. There was a red light; they had the right of way. This black Tacoma came out of nowhere and just hit one of the girls, knocking her from the sidewalk literally across to the other side of the light,” said Nathan McMahon of Bordentown Township.
Chopper 6 video from the scene showed several electric scooters lying in the intersection and damage to the truck
“The guy came out and literally said, ‘I wasn’t looking; I don’t know what happened.’ I sat there with him to make sure he didn’t go anywhere until the cops got there and tried to help with the girls as best as I could,” said McMahon.

The second girl involved was not injured.
Route 130 was shut down for hours as police conducted their investigation.
The truck was towed away, and police took the driver in for questioning.
“He literally came flying up, doing about maybe 40, 45, and there was a red light clear as day,” said McMahon.
People who live in the area say this stretch is no stranger to crashes and reckless driving.
“This is a residential area with a lot of kids, a lot of scooters, a lot of e-bikes, regular bikes… people will speed through; they don’t even think about the kids,” said Barbara Stephens of Bordentown Township.
Investigators have not released additional details about what led to the crash.
