Are there cheaper ultralight tents than the 3F UL Lanshan 2? Sure. Will we sleep in them? No, if we can help it. When it first hit the US market around 2017, many hikers were skeptical of the Lanshan, a domestic Chinese trekking pole tent that weighs just 2.5 pounds and has a retail price of less than $200. But in our testing, it performed better than the price. The fly, made of 15D silicone-coated nylon, blocks rain with minimal sag, while the 20D nylon bathtub floor withstands abrasion from rocks and roots without leaking. At 25.8 sq ft of floor space, the living capacity is on par with the traveller’s favorite ZPacks duplex. (Ding: While it’s one-sixth the price of the Duplex, the tradeoff is that the Lanshan 2 is also about twice as heavy.)
Looking for something a little lighter? The single-wall version, the Lanshan 2 Pro, shaves about half a pound from the Lanshan 2’s weight. Get 5 percent off with code SAFEHIKING from 3F’s website.
