  • More and more people are using the podcast app Overcast. BuzzSprout’s platform stats for June show that podcast consumption by Overcast has increased by +28% year-over-year. Most other apps are relatively stable – except for Spotify, which shows a decline of -26%. (Some of this can be attributed to Spotify Video, which is hosted by Spotify itself). “Web browsers” increased by 4.4%.

    • Meanwhile, Transistor’s stats – archived here – show a 22% increase in Overcast year-on-year and a -40% drop for Spotify. Apple Podcasts has seen modest growth.

  • Websites we like: This Loudness website, simply called Loudness.app. This shows you how fast your podcast is playing (LUFS level, which should be -16); how loud they sound (TP max, which should be -1 and not higher); and LRA, which shows how well all the sounds in your show match at volume (we’d aim for 2.5 if you want to sound like a broadcast radio in your car).
