Due to pollution, overpopulation and the climate crisis, the Earth is facing a terrible new crisis: an irreversible ‘water bankruptcy’. Now, conflicts over water have increased around the world, including in the western United States. Host Carter Sherman talks to Guardian extreme weather correspondent Gabrielle Cannon about the fight over the future of the Colorado River Basin, whose waters sustain about 40 million people across seven states – but are now drying up. Gabriel recently went rafting down the basin’s last ‘wild’ river, the Yampa. Damping or diverting the Yampa could give the West some much-needed hydration.
