The new 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is here and it offers more power and luxury than ever before. We have all the details right here. Let’s find out if GMC beats out the new 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 and all its other competitors, including Ford, RAM, and Toyota.
new exterior
The new Sierra has updated styling that reminds us of the GMC Sierra EV pickup trucks. It’s not exactly the same, but there’s enough of a family resemblance. Our first impressions are very positive, the new Sierra looks fresh and premium. That’s exactly what they’re going for. The Sierra AT4X and Denali trucks remain very popular. These are expensive, capable, and great trucks. GMC is looking to take more advantage of these higher-end trims.
new trims

The updated 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup includes the following trims: Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate.
Pro is the base model. This is where it all starts. These first images show the Sierra 1500 Pro in a crew cab configuration, so it’s unclear whether it will continue to be offered in a smaller double-cab or regular cab configuration. Chevrolet says their 2027 Silverado 1500 work truck will be available in a regular two-door cab with 2WD.
The Sierra 1500 is the Elevation Volume trim. It is the mainstream truck which is the most popular model. From there it’s literally and figuratively all the way up to the AT4 model. The AT4 is an off-road model with suspension lift and 34-inch diameter all-terrain tires. This Sierra has a distinct front end with vertical red toe points inside the front bumper.
The next AT4X off-road trim level returns as well. Now it has been upgraded to 35-inch all-terrain tyres. The AT4X has front and rear locking differentials, DSSV spool-valve dampers with additional jounce control dampers by Multimatic. The front end has horizontal red toe points. The AT4X AEV Edition package will also continue. This is a special off-road package with additional off-road armor.
The luxury truck lineup includes the Denali and Denali Ultimate trim levels. The Denali brand is celebrating 25 years of heritage and these trim levels feature different front ends and new 22-inch wheels.
Powertrain and capability
The 2027 Sierra 1500 lineup will offer a choice of four powertrains. They are an updated 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder turbocharged engine, a 3.0L Duramax I6 turbo-diesel, a new 5.7L V8, and a new 6.6L V8. All these engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The base 8-speed automatic is no more.
GMC did not disclose horsepower or torque numbers for either of these engines. GMC will not offer any hybrid powertrains for its new full-size trucks. If you’re looking for an efficient engine option, you should look at the 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel. This engine is ideal if you drive many miles every day and drive at high highway speeds.
If you’re looking for an efficient electric powertrain, GMC still offers the Sierra EV in multiple trims. These EV trucks also offer high levels of export power.
new interior
The interior of the new Sierra 1500 takes it up a notch once again. You wouldn’t confuse it with a Silverado interior. It stands out with its sophisticated horizontal layout. GMC says they’re offering over 60 inches of total screen real estate. This includes a 16.3-inch center infotainment screen that folds electrically to reveal a large storage cube. In some trims, the passenger gets an 11.5-inch screen that has its own motorized cover. The Drive gets a 12-inch gauge cluster, a larger head-up display and a digital camera rear view mirror.
The new Sierra 1500 features a new MultiPro center console that includes sliding cup holders, a larger storage area and a folding armrest that can unfold into a flat surface.
The new 2027 Sierra 1500 truck lineup will be available on sale by the end of this year (2026). GMC has not announced pricing or any other specifications at this time. We hope to see and test these trucks in person soon.
