This Volkswagen Supercar Isn't Real, But It Should Be
  • Volkswagen design intern Fabian Reitz created the VW ID.DIN T14.
  • Volkswagen built a scale model of the car.
  • It is an intimidating looking coupe with a huge rear diffuser.

Volkswagen does not make any supercars, nor has it ever made one. The closest the automaker came a quarter-century ago was with the W12 prototype. VW never gave it the green light, leaving the supercar market to Volkswagen Group’s other brands, but that hasn’t stopped one design intern from dreaming big.

For his Volkswagen Design Internship project, Fabian Reitz created the VW ID.DIN T14. Andreas Mindt, head of Volkswagen Group and Brand Design, shared the concept on his Instagram, which goes beyond the usual sketches and artistry. Volkswagen converted the sketches into a scale model.

in his Instagram Post, Mindt called the concept “bold” with “clear proportions, fewer surfaces and a strong graphic character”.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that the car shares elements of the Audi Concept C, but the Volkswagen looks much more sinister. It looks like something the Penguin would drive in the next Batman movie, with its slab sides, narrow greenhouse, and wraparound windshield.

Aerodynamic elements include vents at the top of the front fenders and a huge rear diffuser. There are no side mirrors – the concept appears to have used Lesia cameras that jut out from the fenders. It has large wheels with aero covers, and looks like it will fit in well with the rest of the Volkswagen lineup.

Motor1’s Opinion: Being a concept from a design intern, you shouldn’t expect Volkswagen to turn it into a production car any time soon. It’s a design exercise, nothing more—but it looks good.
