Over the years, Riju has occupied a niche corner of the motorcycle world. Mention the Spanish brand and most riders will think of lightweight enduro bikes, trail machines and the kind of motorcycles that spend more time shredding dirt than sitting in city traffic.

That’s why the company’s latest machine is interesting, because it signals a change taking place throughout the industry. Riju is not launching any more dirt bikes. It is launching an adventure scooter.

was called x-over 357 (Read as “crossover”, I believe), the new model joins a category that has become surprisingly crowded over the years. Adventure scooters used to be a novelty. Manufacturers have realized that many riders like the rugged looks and touring aspirations of adventure bikes, but are not necessarily interested in tall seat height, manual transmissions, or managing a 500-pound motorcycle during a morning commute.

This formula has proven remarkably successful. I mean, just take a look at the Honda X-ADV. The recipe is actually pretty simple: take a practical scooter, add a taller windscreen, more aggressive styling, suspension looking for longer travel, and enough utility for weekend escapes. Suddenly you’ve got a machine that appeals to a much wider audience. The X-Over 357 follows that recipe almost to the letter. Its 329cc thumper produces 30 horsepower and is paired with a CVT, making it accessible to riders who prioritize convenience over gear changes and clutch function.

Riju has also packed the scooter with the kind of equipment buyers have increasingly come to expect in this segment. There’s a TFT display with smartphone connectivity, a keyless ignition system, heated grips, dual USB charging ports, full LED lighting, and enough underseat storage to swallow two full-face helmets. In other words, it is equipped with the realities of modern transportation rather than a fantasy adventure ride across the Sahara.

Interestingly, the scooter also raises questions about how motorcycle brands are evolving. While Riju remains a Spanish company, the X-Over 357 appears to share many features among modern Chinese-developed scooter platforms. This is hardly unusual anymore. The motorcycle industry has become increasingly global, with manufacturers purchasing engines, platforms and entire vehicles from partners around the world. For many buyers, where the machine is made matters less than whether it offers good value, solid reliability, and trustworthy dealer support.

And that’s what makes the X-Over 357 worth noting. The story isn’t whether it was assembled in Spain, China, or somewhere in between. The story is that another established motorcycle manufacturer took notice of the adventure scooter segment and decided it was too important to ignore. When brands known for dirt bikes start going after scooter buyers, it’s a pretty good sign that consumer tastes are changing.
