Some of the world’s favorite automotive journalists also have amazing car collections. Chris Harris also owns a Ferrari 512 Testarossa and a Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, among other special machines; Doug DeMuro owns a Porsche Carrera GT and a Ford GT. I don’t have… any of those things. The best I can do is an old Ford dump truck. And while it may keep me from owning the next Halo model from Maranello, I hope McMurtry – creator of the mind-bending Sperling fan car – won’t hold it against me.

I’m judging it purely based on Boutique Manufacturer’s WebsiteWhich includes a questionnaire for anyone interested in purchasing the Sperling Pure production version. Look, while some companies want your garage full of their greatest hits before allowing you to buy the latest, McMurtry seems far more accessible. I’m only missing $1.3 million, plus taxes and fees, to buy that thing.

McMurtry asks some simple questions, like, “Where do you live?” and “How do you plan to use the car?” I believe both of these are relevant. And when they ask what your current car collection looks like, it’s at the bottom of the list, and it’s not like they expect you to own another McMurtry so much as it’s the first.

As far as I can tell, I don’t need to disclose my net worth or my number of social media followers. Instead, McMurtry is more interested in what race tracks I enjoy most (Maple Valley Raceway from Forza comes to mind). The form also has space for any questions you want to ask! How considerate is he?

Honestly, the part I’m most curious about is the height and weight limits for driving one of these. The electric car’s 1,000 horsepower, 1.55-second zero-to-60 time, and >3g cornering looks pretty wild for a driver the size of a Stig. What if you’re 6’5″ and 290 pounds like me? Maybe this is a question I should consider asking.

Anyway, this really is a special car that was built to break records and challenge people’s thinking. Downforce and fans are the biggest party tricks, and Sperling is worthy of competing in Global Time Attack if you’re so inclined. Just make sure your bankroll is ready for the hit.
