The legendary star with more Grand Slams than Serena Williams speaks on her Wimbledon return

Although she might not call it a comeback, as she technically never used the word “retirement”, Serena Williams is making a triumphant return to the Grand Slam at this year’s Wimbledon tournament. She is not only playing in singles competition, but she is also playing doubles with elder sister Venus. This is Williams’ first appearance at a major since the 2022 US Open.

Naturally, with this being such big news, tennis fans, players, analysts and veterans are all excited. Many can’t wait to see if Williams still has the form, strength and competitive grit to really step it up and possibly capture another Grand Slam championship, in doing so equaling record holder Margaret Court. While Williams has won the most Grand Slams of any woman in the open era of tennis, with 23, Court has won the most Grand Slams overall with 24. Speaking of the court, he recently shared his thoughts on Williams’ big comeback with local Australian news.

Court talked to Australia 9news and briefly talked about Williams reaching the Wimbledon stage. She shared:

“I don’t think she (Williams) will be thinking, ‘Oh, I’m just going to go and play at Wimbledon.’ I think she’ll be doing a lot of work behind the scenes, and she’ll be watching and thinking, ‘A lot of them aren’t that good, I can probably still do this.'”

Given that Williams has traditionally kept her cards close, it’s easy to believe that Court’s statement isn’t that far-fetched. Although Serena cannot claim that other players are “not that good”, she can think that she can remain competitive when facing them, and is working hard to get back into form.
