There have been a few changes to the upcoming slate truck, but now we know its price for sure.
While the price of the new slate truck was hinted at in a leak on the company’s own retail site last week, we now have an official starting MSRP as the inaugural model of the slate auto has made the rounds in California. The “Blank Slate,” as it launches, will start at $24,950 before any destination charges, taxes and fees. Including destination charges in the mix, we’re just looking at Above $25K, but that gets you a brand-new electric vehicle with up to 205 miles of range and a standard NACS charging port.

From there, you can customize the slate as effectively as you want. The company is bypassing the traditional dealer model and brick-and-mortar stores, and going direct to consumers with a ton of options. Do you want a pickup? This is the base option, but you can also get a five-seat SUV with a traditional box shape or a sloping roofline. Wraps, tires, a two-inch lift or lowering kit are all on the table, though we haven’t determined pricing on a suspension kit yet.
The “Squareback” SUV, as a more traditional SUV option, comes in at $24,950 to start (again, before destination). The fastback SUV is another $2K, coming in at $31,950. There will also be an Open Air kit available if you want to do some Wrangler or Bronco cosplay with your little electric SUV.
The new slate truck gets a large 63-kilowatt Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery pack under the hood. Slate says it’s good for the aforementioned 205 miles, while the NACS port enables Tesla Supercharger access. Now, $25-$30K won’t get you fast charging speeds, but the company mentions up to 120kW, which should top up the battery very quickly (think 30 minutes from 10-80%). Using the onboard 11-kilowatt Level 2 AC charger, you can top up from a completely drained battery in about four hours, provided you have a reasonably robust home charger installed.
A single electric motor at the rear powers the slate truck. You get 181 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, which puts it in roughly the same ballpark as the Ford Maverick Hybrid. Obviously, it’s not a speed machine, but you’re also not paying speed machine prices for the privilege. And speaking of “privilege” you get No Whatever the equipment for that base $24,950. You get four wheels, some seats, basic climate controls… and that’s about it. If you want speakers, armrest, tablet mount (since you don’t get the infotainment system), you’ll have to spend some money on that price.
In the 2027 slate truck you get a MacPherson strut suspension setup at the front, with a De Dion axle at the rear – a setup that uses a half-shaft with the differential attached to a frame rather than a more traditional solid-axle approach with the axle and differential integrated together into a tube.
Payload capacity is actually respectable for a truck this size, coming in at 1,550 pounds for the base truck (or 1,263 pounds if you go for the SUV). It also has a five-foot long bed and you can haul up to 2,000 pounds of luggage. Not that people are going to be swapping out their full-size trucks for this kind of arrangement anytime soon, but at least it lets you carry a little extra gear if you need to.
The 2027 slate truck will finally launch in the fourth quarter of this year. So far, Slate Auto says it has over 180,000 reservations (you can, too). input your name here $300 for reservation fee). Ultimately, the company says it can increase production to 150,000 units per year. We’ll have to see how many of those reservations actually convert into full orders, but at any rate, there’s a good chance you’ll see one of these little trucks on the road soon, if you’re not pulling the trigger yourself.
