When you enable HLS video with your podcast host, the Apple Podcasts app doesn’t download the video (or audio) in one chunk — instead it downloads smaller chunks. One advantage we’re told is that it’s much easier to know how much of an episode has actually been consumed: because it’s only downloading those parts. But – is HLS video really better for consumption statistics? We consider whether we can work on “the play”.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if Google had a “Podcasts” tab? Well, there isn’t one; but there Is A podcast tab at Kagi, a paid search engine. A general search for Podnews, of course, finds us; But click on the Podcasts tab, and it searches through a set of podcast episodes. You can do the same search for Rob Walch, and you’ll get a bunch of relevant episodes he’s been on; Or a search for “best microphone” turns up podcasts that do exactly that. The links go to most podcast websites; But also for Apple Podcasts. There is a free 100 search trial, and no AI unless you deliberately turn it on.
