Welcome to today’s photo of the day! Here we have a Sheridan Knockabout single shot pistol produced from 1953 to 1960, chambered in .22 S/L/LR.
Sheridan is mostly remembered for the air gun and rightfully so, but they also made this thing. The knockabout was as simple as the pistol. Single shot, 5-inch barrel, no frills, designed at a price that puts it within reach of anyone who wants a cheap .22 for plinking or small game. No revolver mechanisms, no semi-auto complications, just a firing pin and a spring and a barrel pointed at what you’re shooting at.
The blue finish and synthetic grips were standard for utility pistols of that era. Minor crack in the heel of the left grip is typical for old plastic after decades of temperature changes. Their aim was never to have a child.
Honestly, there’s not much of a mystery here. This is a simple, cheap, functional .22, from a decade when this market was wide open and many manufacturers were competing for it. Knockabout found its buyers.
