Oscar-winner predicts Jay-Z for 2027 Super Bowl halftime show: Why it’s impossible

It’s been an unprecedented year for Jay-Z as he returns to the stage to celebrate his 30th anniversary reasonable doubt 25th anniversary of the album outline The overall impact of the album, and his renowned career, on culture.

It was only in late May that Jay-Z adopted Roots Picnic on stage and shocked fans when he not only debuted a larger-than-life Afro, but he also performed a freestyle diss within his famous set. Then, during the weekend of July 10, when Beyoncé completely cut off Jay-Z’s hair, the rapping GOAT performed three successful shows in front of thousands of people at Yankee Stadium, which may go down as some of the biggest performances of his career.

All that being said, one Oscar winner believes that, based on the “Can’t Knock the Hustle” entertainer’s phenomenal year, he would be the perfect candidate to headline the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Although many people would love it (including me), it is doubtful that it will happen.

Oscar-winner Matthew Cherry is “sure” Jay-Z is doing the Super Bowl

Joining the number celebrating Jay-Z following his 3-day Yankee Stadium show, director/producer Matthew Cherry took to X (formerly Twitter) to add his two cents. Known for his Oscar-winning short child love And to direct episodes of shows like Abbott Elementary, young sheldonAnd swaggerCherry practically lobbied Jay-Z to perform at Super Bowl LXI, saying, “Yeah. Jay-Z is definitely doing the Super Bowl this season.”

Had Jay-Z performed, it would have been his biggest show on the biggest stage to date. Notably, he has never headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and his epic career certainly qualifies him for the event. Plus, given his position as live music entertainment strategist with the NFL, he has a lot of influence in technically making this all work.

Why Jay-Z can’t be in the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show

I can name at least three reasons that could prevent Jay-Z from actually performing, even if he has a great year. Let’s start with a point already raised: his status with the NFL. Despite him being arguably the greatest rapper of all time and having the ability to put together a very entertaining show, there are some complications behind him naming himself the Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. Some may see this as honoring himself inappropriately (like someone electing himself president).

Jay-Z is smart and probably knows he could be criticized for performing at the show while holding an NFL position. However, it’s not like he’s never faced harsh words from critics, so it’s certainly possible that he wouldn’t care.

Another jab against Jay-Z performing concerns the location of next year’s Super Bowl. It will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. While the New York native and his family reside in California, there are actually other popular music artists from the state who would be perfect candidates to perform at the halftime show on their home turf. Two names that come to mind are Doja Cat and Billie Eilish.

Of course, refuting this point is the fact that state natives aren’t always interested in halftime shows. Kendrick Lamar is not from New Orleans, Louisiana, but he performed at the show there. And Bad Bunny is from Puerto Rico, not California, where last year’s Super Bowl took place.

The last point is related to the fact that Jay-Z might want to mix things up. For starters, the last three halftime shows have been headlined by a man. Furthermore, the artists are rooted in R&B, rap and reggaeton. I think next year’s show is likely to feature some more feminine energy and perhaps from the pop end of the spectrum. Billie Eilish has already been mentioned, but if I had to guess, I’d say Ariana Grande or Miley Cyrus are likely for the show.

But hey, these are just my initial thoughts. What do you think? Will Jay-Z perform at next year’s Super Bowl?
